Pumpkin Party

Friday evening we went to the boys first Pumpkin Party.  They had been excited all week long, and believe me, that worked in my favor!  I don’t know what I’m going to do now without the bribery of “no pumpkin party if you do/don’t …..”  Oh well, we still have 3 birthday parties this weekend, then I don’t know what I’ll do!!

I’m posting some pictures to tell the story of the party.  Bottom line, my boys had such a great time.  Allie & Annabelle’s mommies worked really hard and put together a great First Annual Pumpkin Party.  We’re glad we were able to go!!  Thanks AC & AB!!

DSCN3193DSCN3196 Wyatt thought the corn trough was pretty amazing!  So did AC who kept saying, “Paty heah, paty heah! We dot con!!” (Party here, party here! We got corn!!)

DSCN3198 Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger, or Buzz Lightyear Lone Ranger?!  As always, Way preferred to stay to himself!

DSCN3214One of the 2 sweetest Punkins ever!!  Miss Allie Claire  DSCN3219Wyatt with his Pumpkin, it seriously took 5 minutes to “carve.” One of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

DSCN3223Wyatt post piƱata swing.  He kept saying he was going to “smack that pumpkin open!” I missed the shot of the swing, but he gave it enough oomph to knock his hat off!!

A Practice Jack

This Friday we’ll be loading up and heading out to the boys’ very first Pumpkin Party!

I made the decision to try something different this year in regards to pumpkin carving.  I figure, since I’m taking the crazies by myself, and there’s 2 of them and 1 of me, my Elementary Algebra skills tell me I’m outnumbered.  I do not trust that we will be able to cut, scoop and carve in a timely manner.  I also think that my math skills compute that Me + 2 crazy boys + gunk of 2 pumpkins = not a good outcome.

So….in order to find something a little cleaner and manageable, I went to Michaels and bought a couple of craft pumpkins.  The lady at the store told me I would need a “hot exacto” knife to carve them (which turns out is fancy schmancy lingo for “wood burning tool with a neat little carver attachment thingy.  Look it up.  I’m pretty sure it’s in Webster’s).  We finally found the said tool for $29.99.  My math skills computed that to $29.99 + 1 night of pumpkin carving = NO.  I bought an extra “practice pumpkin” for the sweet price of $3.99 and brought it home to work on.

Apparently *gasp* it is possible to use regular old pumpkin carving tools to cut on these things!!  Granted, it should have a warning label that says “DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BLOW SHAVINGS AWAY AS THEY MIGHT FLY BACK AND CAUSE TEMPORARY BLINDNESS IN RIGHT EYE!!”  Or something to that effect…not that it happened to me…ahem.

It actually went pretty well, and quick too!!  And I’m excited that they won’t rot after a day in the heat.  Which means they may stay in service until March, knowing my kids.  They tend to get attached to things, like Waylon wanted to take a scented candle to school the other day…weird, I know…totally different story that I’m not getting into.

(My only worry is that instead of good ol organic pumpkin gunk, we have some other foamish shavings flying that I’m praying isn’t some form of carcinogen in California.  But we’re in sunny FLA so it should be ok, right?!)

Here’s the finished product…

Sesame Street

DSCN3111 Disclaimer: This is not a good picture post.  It’s possible that one horrible Momma may have left the memory card to the camera in the computer, and apparently her camera only holds about 6 pictures on the internal memory.  Moving along…

Last week the boys took a field trip to see Sesame Street Live 1-2-3…Imagine!

It was Wyatt’s first field trip and his first ride on a school bus!DSCN3112 DSCN3113 DSCN3114

I was a little nervous because last time we took the boys to a live stage show was “Backyardigans Live” at the Phillips Center and it. was. bad.  We had to leave our good seats up front to sit in the back, then had to leave at intermission because Waylon freaked out with the lights off and all the kids screaming.  It was fabulous.  This time was better….a little bit.

Both of the boys liked the show…for the first 5 minutes or so.  Then it was, “I’m ready to go home!,” “Is it time for clean up yet?", “Can I have some popcorn?,” “I want this to be OVER!!”  I think it would’ve been better, but the sound was a little off and we couldn’t understand what they were saying half the time.  Plus my boys were super distracted by the kids behind us that had Sesame Street pennants and Elmo light spinners.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to be all Negative Nelly! It was a cute show and we generally had a good time!!

Waiting on the show to start

Trying to get a picture of me & the boys…this was toward the end!

The best part of the day was that Nana & Aunt Tania went with us too, and we had a great time on the way over (without the boys!) and at lunch.  I’m so glad that they were able to go and share the experience!

Yet another note to self

Dear Self,

If you try to sit down and update your blog, and your oldest son gets REALLY quiet, chances are he’s running a train wash in the bathroom, and you’ll probably need to put shampoo on the grocery list.

Sincerely,

Crystal

Brothers

The boys are getting better about playing with each other without fighting.  Note I said better.  They still fight like crazy most of the time, but on occasion I find them playing nicely, and that makes me grab my camera!

DSCN3079

I think that the days are coming that they’re going to try to talk each other into doing things they shouldn’t.  So far, it hasn’t been anything bad that they’ve done, but I know one day it’ll get worse.  Today Waylon talked Wyatt into sitting still and letting him “work” on him.

DSCN3103 DSCN3104 This was the finished product….

DSCN3107 As long as he learns to discern which times he’s going to listen & do what his brother tells him to, I think we’ll be ok!

First Deer of the Season

Here’s a few pics of the first deer Jesse got this season.  It’s a 5 point that he killed this morning in the club here by the house.

DSCN3092 DSCN3101 DSCN3100    DSCN3093 The boys were really excited!!  They both can’t wait until they’re big enough to go hunting with Daddy.  Wyatt told me this morning, “Momma, when I get big I’m gonna get a shotgun out of your room and go to the woods and miss a turkey!”  I asked him if he meant he was going to kill a turkey, and of course he said yes!

Part of me is sad to think that in a few years, I’m going to be sitting here waiting by myself for all my guys to get home from the woods, and part of me is a little bit excited at the prospect of being all by myself with a good book (or the mall!) Either way, I know that day will be here before I know it…

I Want a Sad Face…

We’ve been working with Waylon on his fine motor skills and getting him to practice holding a pen, drawing shapes, etc by utilizing his easel and white board.  The other day we were practicing tracing his name, and drawing people.  I helped him draw the mouth of the “person,” but the rest he did on his own.  When it came time to do the mouth I said, “OK, let’s make this guy happy!!” and Waylon says, “No, I want him to be sad!” So we drew the sad face, then I had to get Waylon to take a picture making his sad face too.  Apparently it’s hard to make a real sad face when you’re having fun!!

Wyatt did a little drawing too, he drew most of his picture, but did have some coaching on what body part to draw and where to draw it.  I think he did pretty good!  It’s cute anyway!!
